7. Ad Astra (Trailer #2)

I have been, and continue to be all aboard for this movie. We’re getting more pieces of the plot with this one, which makes it look a tad bit like ‘Sunshine’ which is one of my favorite space movies. The soundtrack, in particular, is very haunting and makes me think this could be a contender for one of my favorite movies of the year.  It stars Brad Pitt (Fight Club), Liv Tyler (Armageddon), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men) and Donald Sutherland (The Italian Job). It’s directed/written by James Gray, who made ‘We Own the Night’ as well as ‘The Lost City of Z’ which I found to be sincerely underrated. This is also a Plan B Entertainment (Brad Pitt’s production company) joint, and they’ve made a lotttt of heaters including ‘The Departed’, ‘Moneyball’, ’12 Years a Slave’, ‘The Big Short’, ‘Moonlight’, ‘Vice’ and more.

8. Playing With Fire

On a fundamental level, I do not understand John Cena’s need to do these pre-trailer, hype videos. As for the movie, this is pretty clearly not meant for adults. The main cast is great, but this looks corny as all hell. It stars John Cena (Blockers), Keegan-Michael Key (Toy Story 4), John Leguizamo (Spawn) and Judy Greer (Jurassic World). It’s directed by Andy Fickman (Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2) and written by Dan Ewen and Matt Lieberman.

9. Terminator: Dark Fate (Extended trailer)

The original trailer didn’t really do much for me. The song was badass as hell, but the new terminator looked like CGI shit and the action was a bit cheesy. This extended trailer is definitely a bit better, especially the Arnie moments. Arnold, Linda Hamilton, AND Edward Furlong reprise their roles with Mackenzie Davis (Black Mirror), Tom Hopper (Black Sails), Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Natalia Reyes (2091) all joining. Tim Miller (Deadpool) is directing with a script by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), Justin Rhodes (Grassroots) and Billy Ray (The Hunger Games).

10. The Kitchen (Trailer #2)

This trailer is certainly better than the first, but I think you could set The Chain to anything and I would like it more. The production value looks authentic and the cast is good, but I’m just not sure how interesting a 70s mob movie can be right now. It stars Melissa McCarthy (Can you Ever Forgive Me), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Tiffany Haddish (Girl’s Trip), Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars), Common (John Wick: Chapter 2), and Bill Camp (The Night Of). Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) is directing off a script she adapted off a comic book series.

11. Hustlers

Not really my scene, but I respect the shit out of Jennifer Lopez and like most of this cast. The actual story this movie is based off of is pretty interesting if you’re looking for a good read as well. This stars Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), Jennifer Lopez (Maid in Manhattan), Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You), Lili Reinhart (Riverdale), Lizzo (soundtracks for Blockers, Girls trip) and Cardi B, who I thought was still cancelled. Lorene Scafaria (New Girl) is directing and adapted the script.

12. Paradise Hills

This…did not look great. The cast is pretty good, but the production value looks shitty outside of the costume design. I also didn’t really grasp much of the plot outside of it being some sort of Hunger Games-type boarding school. This stars Eiza González (Baby Driver), Emma Roberts (Little Italy), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians), and Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element). Alice Waddington is directing and co-wrote the script.

13. A Score To Settle

Hell yea baby! I’m down for any slop that Nic graces us with. I particularly love the soundtrack going in and out of a dramatic theme and Italian Opera at random. This stars Nic Cage (National Treasure) and Benjamin Bratt (Traffic) with Shawn Ku (Pretty Dead Girl) directing.
