Wake Up With Danny Almonte's No-Hitter In 2001

Sorry but this is the only video of the no-hitter from Danny Almonte on Youtube. I wasn't going to post half of the 30 For 30 from ES*N on him, but there are clips of the game in there. People often talk about times they wish twitter was around for….Danny Almonte and that New York LLWS team is 100% one of those things I wish we had twitter for. The absolute DOMINANCE by those kids was insane. When Danny Almonte took the mound, it was must see TV. Maybe it was because of his dominating fastball, or the way that he struck every kid out, or maybe it was because he was 14 playing against 12 year olds. In this game against State College, PA Almonte was almost untouchable. Struck out 16 of the 18 batters he faced with only a handful of guys even putting the ball in play. The start after this he threw a perfect game, but later on his team would lose to that same team. Almonte couldn't pitch because he pitched the day before, hence why they lost. He was throwing 76 MPH from that little league bump, which is equivalent to a major leaguer throwing 102. In the 2001 LLWS he faced 72 batters, gave up 3 hits, and struck out 62. Striking out 62 of 72 people faced is unheard of, but then again if you a 14 year old with a mustache and probably a learners permit and faced 12 year olds you could do that too.
This whole thing turned out to be so comical, his parents got in a bunch of trouble, and he kind of faded from the spotlight. He bounced around in some baseball leagues and even played JUCO baseball, but we never saw or heard of Almonte again until the 30 For 30 a few years back. Every summer when the LLWS starts back up you always see some kid 6 inches taller than everyone and the first name that jumps to mind is Danny Almonte. He will always be a legend for that reason. I'll never forget that summer watching Almonte mow down those kids. A performance for the ages.
