Tom Brady Just Posted the Photo of 2019
Sometimes one image can capture a time, a place, a culture, an era, like no other medium can. The way no written words, no speech, no music ever could.
The tomb paintings of the ancient Egyptians depicting their gods and rulers. The Grecian urn paintings of their great myths. Roman bas reliefs telling the tales of their epic battles. The Marines raising the flag on Mt. Suribachi. The sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square. The first Moon Landing. The Farrah Fawcett poster I had on my wall. Throughout history, pictures have been worth more than a thousand words.
And this picture Tom Brady posted captures our day and age better than any image has ever done. In the distant future, when our civilization finally crumbles and archeologists mine through the data pile to determine what our world was like at its peak in 2019, I hope they find this Tweet. It is all of the best we have to offer in our lifespans. The best example of human kind, mashed up with the best our culture has to offer.
The most accomplished person, wearing the object that was at the core of the most anticipated pop entertainment phenomenon of all time. The GOAT of sports combined with the GOAT of film franchises. And after impossibly long times for both of them – 19 years for him, 10 years and 22 films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – they both managed to be at the very top of their game.
Not to mention the absolute synchronicity of him winning his sixth ring just as Tony Stark managed to get his nanobot Iron Man gauntlet on all six Infinity Stones. There’s not a man, woman or child among us who didn’t recognize the surreal, harmonious confluence of those two things happening within just a few months of each other without thinking that on some level, it was meant to be.
The only difference being that Tony Stark will no longer be using his, whereas Tom Brady’s right hand will still be snapping people in and out of existence, with no end in sight.
