Ho Hum, Eloy Jimenez Hit A Ball To Mars Again
This is starting to become an every other day thing. For the second time in just under 1 week, Eloy Jimenez deposited a ball 460+ feet to dead center.
and this bomb was on the heels of an even further home run against KC last week:
Now I’m of the opinion that the ball Eloy hit last night was further than the one he hit against KC. I know stat cast said it was 9 feet shorter, but I have only seen one other player hit a ball over the shrubbery at Sox Park, and that player is Jim Thome in the 2008 Blackout Game:
To clear that landscaping up there means you unzipped your pants and pissed all over a baseball. It is stone cold murder. Nothing less.
I talked and talked and talked about the approach Eloy was starting to show in the batter’s box on Red Line Radio EP103. I said that even though he wasn’t hitting balls out of the park with regularity or authority yet, the way he was attacking pitching would start to pay dividends in the near future. He was finally laying off the hard slider off the plate and away and when a pitch would find the outer half, he’d fly out to right field. That tells me his approach is correct, his timing wasn’t.
Well now he’s timing everything perfectly and hitting the shit out of baseballs like we knew he eventually would:
and his fWAR has climbed from -.6 to -.1 over that stretch. Note – he’ll never be a consistent 5+ WAR player unless they get him the fuck out of the OF.
Nevertheless, the White Sox are fun again. Everyone who roots for the South Siders is enjoying this:
and it has White Sox fans SALIVATING for a season that is just 10 months away that will feature this rotation:
1. Giolito
2. Cease
3. Kopech
4. Rodon/Lopez/Dunning/Free agent
5. Rondon/Lopez/Dunning /Free agent
and a lineup consisting of Moncada, Anderson, Madrigal, Vaughn, Robert, Abreu, Collins and more. It’s officially gotten to the point where I’m pissed when the Sox have off days.
This so much goddamn fun
