Daily Mail – The mantra ‘work hard, play hard’ has for years been the driving force behind investment bankers and high-flying business executives alike. But it seems these ideals, for some at least, are straying rather too far towards the latter. This has now given rise to a growing number of so-called ‘sober companions’ who make their living helping New York CEOs curb their addictions, often using the most furtive of tactics. To allow these top executives to keep up appearances, they will work undercover – as personal assistants, bodyguards, researchers or drivers – around the clock making sure they steer well clear of their vices, be it alcohol, painkillers or prostitutes. Very often, only their close family know their secret. One such minder, Chuck Kanner, told how he tried to keep a multi-millionaire digital technology client on the straight and narrow.
