Backpage Relationship Gone Wrong: CEO & Former "Girlfriend" Show Up In Court After Running Up $5.8 Million On Company Card

Chicago Tribune - Buffalo Grove executive Scott Kennedy and his escort-turned-girlfriend were allegedly in the midst of a massive $5.8 million fraud scheme when he wrote her a lengthy email in October 2016 laying out his worries about their crumbling relationship.

Kennedy already had used his company’s credit to buy his new love, Crystal Lundberg, everything she dreamed about, from extravagant Christmases for her kids to sports cars, exotic trips and fancy jewelry, according to federal prosecutors.

But instead of returning the affection, Lundberg had picked up and moved to California, racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars more on the company dime, including renting a mansion, hiring a driver, even getting breast implants and liposuction. Worried that his bosses would discover the fraud at any moment, Kennedy asked Lundberg in the email whether he was “just a bank account” to her.

“It seemed like everything I was doing, including breaking the law, was in vain,” Kennedy testified in a federal courtroom Wednesday in Chicago. “I’m not getting anything out of this. I’m not being loved.”

So Pat blogged this back in 2017, but since it’s back in the news and is somewhat Chicago based I felt compelled to bring it back to light because the whole thing is just insane.

As you read a little bit of the article above you see that she had this dude so wrapped up at one point that she just said “Yeah, and you know what I’m just going to move to California” and Scott Kennedy just kept firing over the money.

That’s how you know he was in deep. I mean at that point what are you even getting, Scott? May as well just dump a bunch of money into those robot sex call hotlines instead.

But, I don’t think we can act like Mrs. Lundberg did no wrong here:

According to an analysis provided by Nemera to the FBI, Lundberg spent about $585,000 in a failed attempt to open a medical spa, called the Royalty Room. Additional alleged expenses included two Rolex watches at a combined cost of $60,000, a personal driver for $8,000 a month and two purebred dogs that cost as much as $6,000.

If you’re going out buying $60,000 Rolex’s and personal drivers like you’re fucking J-Lo then you just did too much too soon.

Take that fucking Pink Cadillac back!

(Even though it was really a Lexus)

His financial entanglements with Lundberg started with a $400 payment he made in May 2015 to cover her past-due bill at a suburban extended-stay hotel, Kennedy testified. Weeks later, he took out a loan to buy her a $30,000 Lexus

I recommend that you read the whole article because it was very captivating, but this had to be the toughest part of all:

Kennedy’s desperate email to Lundberg that was shown to jurors Wednesday was sent as he became increasingly concerned about their fraud being exposed. At the time he was in Greece, where she was supposed to meet him for a romantic getaway to the island of Santorini. Instead she brought her family and never even came to visit him at his hotel.

You’re all geared up for a nice steamy reunion in Greece to smooth things over and then she brings her damn kids/doesn’t even have the decency to come see you.

Not even for a cup of coffee or a gyro. Nothing. She just ices the shit out of you.

The Power of the P, man.

Scott Kennedy just couldn’t escape it.

Oh, and here’s the San Diego mansion where she had movers take $24,000 worth of potted plants to from Illinois. I’m not a big plant guy, but something makes me think that it’d be cheaper if you just bought em new there.
