The Wizards Rebuild To Glory Starts With...The 9th Pick #FindOurDirk
9th. Not great! We had the 6th best odds for the 1st overall pick and dropped to 9th. Freaking 9th! I was already having dreams of Zion in DC, turning the entire franchise around, selling a million Zion shirts, and making basketball fun again in DC.
But guess what?
That’s alright. The rebuild will start with the 9th overall pick. Not preferable, but you know what, not the worst. Let’s look at great #9 overall picks in history:
1997, Tmac.
1999, Shawn Marion.
2002, Amare Stoudemire.
And look at this run:
2009, DeMar Derozen.
2010, Gordon Hayward.
2011, Kemba Walker.
2012, Andre Drummond.
2015, Frank Kaminsky.
But no offense to the greats like Tmac, Amare, and Frank the Tank Kaminsky, but the best #9 overall pick was none other than 1998, Dirk Nowitzki.
The number 9 overall pick isn’t a death sentence. There’s gems to be found. And the Wizards NEED to find them one. Otto didn’t work out as the number 3 overall pick. Beal and Wall were great first rounders, and we sandwiched Jan Vesely between them. But besides Beal and Wall, the Wizards draft history is dire. Guys like JaVale, Swaggy P, Oleksiy Pecherov, Jarvis Hayes, Jared Jeffries, and on and on and on with busts, including good ol’ Kwame in 2001. So yea. Like 2 good picks in the last 20 years or so.
But now we have a new regime. A new day, yes it is. So I have the upmost confidence the Wizards will find our Dirk at 9. Have faith, my friends. This is where it all turns around. With the 9th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Wizards will #FindOurDirk.
