Marshawn Lynch Re-Retires. Here's a Tribute Using His Best Quotes
With Marshawn Lynch retiring yet again for what could be the final time at the age of 33 (that’s in human years, which is like 99 in running back years), I’ll leave it to others to pay tribute to Lynch the football player. To talk about his prime when he topped 1,200+ yards and double digit touchdowns for four straight years. How he led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl title in 2013. Or how he was left standing in the backfield empty handed with another Super Bowl nine feet away the following year. How he finished with 10,379 rushing yards, the 29th highest total of all time.
For me, I’ll always appreciate Marshawn Lynch the Human Quote Machine. One of the best, most combative and compelling interview subjects of his time. In no particular order, here is some of his finest work.
His masterful interview deflections:
One of his most oft-quoted, “I know I’m gon’ get got. But I’m gon’ get mine more than I get got, doe.”
“I’m just ‘bout that action, boss.”
The instant classic “Run through a motherfucker face”:
My personal favorite, one I’ve used the most:
And a few miscellaneous:
“I’m cool with my body, I love my body. I wouldn’t trade it for no other body.”
“Michael Phelps wouldn’t have been on the Wheaties box if I stuck with swimming.”
And:
So farewell to a true original. One who never stopped playing hard and never gave a single fuck about the rest of it. He’ll get replaced, like all running backs do. But there’ll never be another one like him.
