PFT is Visting Me in Asia This Weekend

So yesterday PFT made a last minute decision to  fly to Hong Kong this weekend. He arrives Friday and flies out Monday. Now his motivation for coming to Hong Kong was not to see me.. If it was I’d find that a little racist as I don’t even live in Hong Kong. You can’t just show up anywhere in Asia and expect to find me squatting on a street corner cranking a hoon. It’s a big place. However, as it just so happens, I will also be in Hong Kong this weekend, for the same reason PFT is flying out, Hong Kong 7s, an annual 3 day rugby tournament.

I can say without a doubt that Hong Kong 7s is the most fun I’ve ever had at a sporting event. I feel kinda pretentious when I say that to groups of people in the US. It’s like I’m purposely choosing an event they probably haven’t been to so I can feel extra special and worldly. But the truth is the truth. I don’t even know if I’d classify it as just a sporting event (don’t get me wrong I definitely plan on watching some rugby on Sunday and the USA team is ranked #1 in the world this year) but Saturday is more a combination of Halloween and Mardi Gras. Everyone who’s looking to party shows up at  7AM and then gets quarantined in an area of the stadium know as the South Stands for the next 8 hours. Shit does down. The good (singing, dancing, drinking, “hanky panky”, probably some KBNoSwags doing NoseSwag) the bad (folks in the top stands throw cups of piss at people in the first few rows) and the ugly (people puking on themselves). I’ve written a blog and made two videos on this event before which will give you a feel for it. The first year I ended up sneaking in two days in a row as I was broke at the time.

The second year a random fan made me a fake media pass that had a photo of Ted Cruz on it and said “BOSTER GLOBE REPORTER”.

I didn’t even ask him to do that but figured I should use it so his efforts wouldn’t go to waste. SPOILER ALERT: It worked.

This year I was going to do it the old fashioned way and buy tickets but a member of the US team hooked it up. That’s what I call upwards social mobility.

Now back to PFT.  Besides hosting my cooking show Top Don a couple times and hanging out after a Pup Punk show for 20 minutes, our interactions have been minimal. However, we both enjoy wearing dark shades in dark rooms so  he must be a stand up guy.  Also, his twin brother(RIP) apparently enjoyed making dumplings.

As a rangoon wrapper, I respect that. We’ll be sure to film a couple videos together while he’s in town. He’s gonna be an absolute wreck next week.
