Grading the Newest Sex Scandal Teacher

ColoradoA 24-year-old Arapahoe High School teacher and coach was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student, the result of an investigation initiated by an anonymous tip to police.

Sarah Elise Porter, a Spanish teacher and track coach at the school in Centennial, is facing charges of … sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student she was coaching, according to arrest documents.

A student reported the tip through Safe2Tell, which stated that a student and teacher had kissed in an office with the lights off, according to arrest documents. …

Porter allegedly started sending messages and photos to a student she was coaching via Snapchat. She later allegedly forced herself upon the student, threatening him if he resisted — but was interrupted by messages from a coach possibly about a meeting, according to an interview in the arrest affidavit.

The student victim told investigators that Porter sent him nude photos and videos of herself masturbating.

The head track coach confronted Porter after the report, according to the documents, and she told him she had sent revealing photos to a student while wearing a tank top.

A clinical social worker reported to police that Porter told her she had physical contact with a student athlete in her office and that “they did everything leading to it” but did not have sex.

You know, it seems to me that we are living in a fascinating time that may be nothing less than a crossroads in America. Politically, culturally, socially and economically. That while we all profess to believe in our national creed of “equality,” the question of our times is whether you believe in equality of opportunity or equality of results.

On the one end of the spectrum, you’ve got a free market approach which seems to promote the idea that individuals have different talents and all we can do is allow them the freedom to succeed or fail on their own. Which is why they prefer less government regulation. The other side believes that there is an inherent unfairness in the system and seeks to level the playing field. Which is why they prefer laws which help what they perceive as systemically disadvantaged groups. It truly is the great philosophical debate of our era and will dictate how the next several elections will go.

Which brings us to Sarah Elise Porter. Here’s an individual who appears to believe in the equality of outcome. (Which is ironic since her chosen profession is track, which is one of the last pure meritocracies.) She sees thousands of other teachers successfully have sex with their high school students, but has failed at repeated attempts to have sex with one of hers. Is she entitled to? Is her lack of success a result of her own shortcomings and it’s up to her to do better or find a more willing student? Or is she somehow a victim of a system that has seemed to reward her fellow Sex Scandal Teachers while failing her? And if so, what is the best way for the SST system to remedy the situation? How best do we balance her desire get boned vs. her tracklete’s obvious disinterest in boning her. These are fascinating questions that will be shaping our future for generations to come.

The Grades:
Looks: She coached track so it’s probably safe to assume she’s in good shape, but without more photos I can’t say for sure. All I have to go on is what I posted. Which is a booking photo that makes her look like Ham Porter.
Grade: C

Moral Compass/Bad Judgment: Generally speaking, confessing to Snapchatting nudes and masturbation videos in a tank top while making out and doing “everything leading to” office sex are positive things. But for heaven’s sake, woman. Find someone who’s interested. There must be one kid in that school who’d be willing. We frown upon threats and coercion. Choose a different Be better.
Grade: C+

Intangibles: Arapa-Ho. All too easy.
