Wake Up With Barry Bonds Mondays - Bonds Goes Big Fly Twice On Opening Day In 2002

We made it, you guys. Opening Day is just a few days away and I can already smell the fresh cut grass, the light American beer, and can hear the crack of the bat. What better way to celebrate the Monday of Opening Day Week than with Barry Bonds going 3-4 with two homers and five RBIs on Opening Day back in 2002 against the hated Dodgers. Including his two on this day, he'd go on to hit 46 bombs, drive in 110, hit 31 doubles, walk 198 times (68 times intentional!!!), only 47 strikeouts, a .370 average, a .582 OBP, slugged .799, and had an OPS of 1.381. He'd go on to win his fifth MVP Award and would lead the Giants to the brink of a World Series Title before they lost to the Angels in seven games.
Neither of these home runs were the classic Bonds' homers either, the first he drove to the opposite field and drove in three runners. The second homer was a weird one, a high and outside pitch that he stood upright and smacked it to deep right field. It was either gonna be a long homer or a long strike. It hit the foul pole and Bonds had his second homer of the season in the blink of an eye. He also had a double in that game, so a double and 2 dongs in his first four at-bats isn't a bad way to start the season.
Just a few more days, you got it.
