Please Let Rick Pitino Rest In Peace, How Many Times Does He Need To Be Killed?
[Courier-Journal] - “Here is my response for the 100th time,” Pitino said in a text message from Turkey, where his Greek EuroLeague team plays Thursday. “I’ve never in my 40-plus years given any player any incentive to come play for me. Dawkins in a wiretap, along with (former Adidas consultant T.J.) Gassnola and (Bowen’s) dad said I had no knowledge (of) what was going on.
“(If) A polygraph is not good enough, people under oath is not good enough, 20-plus assistants is not good enough, then nothing is. The Southern District of New York used me for publicity, the University of Louisville buried a Hall of Fame career. Let me rest in peace. Please, you have killed enough of my life.
“And by the way, if you care to ask, there are 50-plus players that will attest to my honesty, not some gullible judge. And Judge Kaplan is as guilty as the people he just sentenced for bringing up an innocent person with his remarks.”
Well, RIPIP Rick Pitino. This is in reference to the FBI trial into college hoops. During the sentencing hearing the judge said:
Well that’s one way to put it. Obviously that’s a major stone thrown right at Pitino. Saying they were covering him up means that even a judge thinks Pitino has some sort of guilt in the whole pay for play situation. If that wasn’t enough then a lawyer said the following:
Haney was even more direct, mocking the entire concept that the Cardinals could be an aggrieved party, labeling it, “One of the most non-compliant and dirtiest basketball programs in the history of the NCAA.”
Well, that’s another major stone. I mean straight up calling them the dirtiest program in the history of the NCAA. I don’t agree with that – as much as the Kentucky fan in me wants to. Baylor is still the dirtiest program ever. You can’t convince me otherwise. Covering up the murder of one of your players is as dirty as it gets.
So naturally Pitino responded. I get it. He’s trying to save his own ass here. I do love that he went with the ‘you killed me’ strategy. Pretty bold statement right there. Even more hilarious when you remember people have compared him to a zombie and/or vampire before.
I am curious to see if and when Pitino comes back to college hoops. He’s one of the 5 best college coaches of all time. He’s also one of the biggest question marks out there. But, it would make sense for a school to take the chance on him. Winning solves all. That’s what matters.
Plus it’d be cool to see a guy come back from the dead. RIP Pitino.
