Not Specifying Which Airport You Need A Ride To Is One Of The Biggest Dick Moves A Chicagoan Can Pull
So this whole conversation started by a tweet that I fired out this morning
My parents asked me for a ride to the airport, and being the normally average son that I am I say no problem – of course.
So then I’m laying in bed yesterday when my Mom emails me over the flight information, and the first thing I see is that they’re flying Southwest. Now, I have nothing against Southwest. Strong airline. Great baggage policy, if ya check in right away you’ll get a good seat, etc.
The problem is that Southwest only flies out of Midway which is an absolute bitch to get to if you’re a northsider from Hiawatha Park like I am. If we see that we have to drive someone to a Southwest flight on this side of town, it’s an instant “Motherfucker” out of us. I then buried my head so far into my pillow that I have a Harry Potter scar from the fucking feathers digging into my forehead.
So whatever, I give my parents a ride. I drop them off and then as soon as I pull away I fire off that tweet.
Then of course I was immediately barraged by people saying how much better Midway is than O’Hare yada, yada, yada…
Then we got people calling for their southside hero Carl to step in for them and defend Midway
To which I clarify
And I’d like to clarify again…I have no beef with Midway.
I actually don’t have a preference on the Midway/O’Hare debate as for the most part I’ve had positive experiences at both so I usually just ride with what’s cheaper.
My problem is with people who pull the damn bait and switch on you when they ask you for a ride to the airport. This shit has to start being specified. It’s the same thing for when someone on the southside asks for a ride to the airport and they get hit with a surprise O’Hare trip, and then gotta double back the hour or whatever it takes you to get back.
Can’t do it.
As I said in the tweet. I’ll still give ya a ride regardless, but at least let me be mentally prepared for the miserable 1st Ave. to Archer experience so I can make a stop at the Brookfield Zoo or some shit.
P.S. – If you live in one of those trendy Wicker/Logan areas you probably don’t give a shit which one you have to drive to. Sorry for wasting your time. I hope you love your centralized airport location as much as you love your local non-chain coffee shop.
