The Mets Answer The Phillies Signing Of Bryce Harper By Inking Carlos Gomez To A Minor League Deal
Brodie, you beautiful brilliant son of a bitch. Just when it looked like our fearless GM may look ridiculous for continuing to call the Mets the favorites of the NL East while the Phillies create a #superteam in the divisions, he goes and does something like this…and TOTALLY redeems himself! Adding a player of Gomez’s caliber who batted over .200 last season (.208) with almost double digit home runs (9) in 118 games is what will help power a Mets offense that feels like it could stall at any moment. And I’m sure the hip that caused the Mets to nix the infamous Wilmer + Wheeler trade will only get better with age! I can’t believe the Mets and Phillies are in an arms war like the 2000s Yankees and Red Sox. But here we are.
Okay, I’m done being a pessimistic little bitch about this. In actuality, it’s a fine signing that a million teams make every Spring when they buy low on a guy that has done it in the past and hope he can rediscover it with a new team. Shit, that’s pretty much the motto of the Rays and A’s. But I tweeted this out yesterday and the only part I got wrong was that it was within the next day instead of within the next hour.
Considering all the other people it could have been, I’m just happy the Mets didn’t bring back Jose Reyes and that Wilmer had already been removed from the franchise to ensure no tears were shed while reliving bad memories. Now time to rewatch the video that makes me so happy before making me so sad because of all the highs we were on before the devastating low. I still can’t believe this happened, let alone 3.5 years ago.
