It shouldn't shock ANYONE when they hear that Alex Rodriguez's final home run of his storied MLB career came off of Kevin Gausman and the Orioles. In his long career Rodriguez hit 69 home runs off of Baltimore pitching, second only to the 70 he hit off of the Angels. Insane numbers no matter how you look at it. But this was the classic A-Rod home run, highhhhhhhhh, farrrrrrr bomb into left center. I mean this really was a towering home run. I remember watching this live and just rolling my eyes watching it, but at this point we didn't know this would be Alex's last homer.
Still wild that he ended on 696, four away from 700. In his first episode of The Corp, he spoke with Dan Katz of Barstool and talked about why he didn't stay on and chase 700. He mentioned that if he had his younger mindset, he would have taken some cash from any team who offered it to him and he'd have stuck around. You kind of have to respect the fact that after all he went through, the injuries, suspension, PR hits, he didn't hold on to try and get 700 and just called it quits.
I know many people are echoing this, but man what a 180 he has done in media and in sports in general. My dad is a Long Island born Yankee fan, he would tell me that he thought A-Rod would eventually go down as the most hated Yankee player of all time, and he meant most hated by Yankee fans. No one thought he'd live up to the big contract and to the New York spotlight, and no one could ever live up to those contracts, but man did he get close. He was suspended a full season and STILL is looked at as a good guy because of how he has flipped his persona all around, incredible.
Enjoy your Friday, friends.
