Peter Cehlarik Recalled, David Backes To Be Healthy Scratched And Other Bruins News

Bruce Cassidy will be healthy scratching $6M forward David Backes tonight in favor of 23 year old Peter Cehlarik on the 2nd line. There’s been no denying the fact that Backes just hasn’t been able to play up to the speed and pace of the game in his last five appearances on David Krejci’s right wing. David isn’t taking this demotion lightly, the wily veteran knows better than to bitch and moan about it, he’s got to earn his place back in the lineup. But for right now, the Bruins will be playing without him.

“You’ve got a couple options on how you react. Either you cry and moan and go into a shell or work your butt off and try to find your spot back in the lineup. The latter obviously has a lot more appealing outcomes than the former.”

With 5 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 games in the A, Peter Cehlarik got the call to the big club and will get his 2nd crack at playing alongside Czech center David Krejci. Jake DeBrusk (LBI, did not practice yesterday) will play right side. Cehlarik believe his ‘game is more complete’ than his previous recall, and wants to bring his heavy all-around game tonight against the Flyers.

John Moore (second straight scratch) and Steven Kampfer will be sitting out as well.

Other notes:

The Boston Bruins lost Colby Cave to waivers yesterday. Peter Chiarelli and the Edmonton Oilers claimed him from the waiver wire. Cave was a hard worker, and played wherever Bruce needed him to, but once the rest of the team got healthy he was squeezed out of the lineup and needed waivers to return to Providence. The game is a business, and while the Bruins lost a player for ‘nothing’ so-to-speak, there wouldn’t have been much of a return if they tried to trade him. All the best to Colby and his family.

Joakim Nordstrom (broken leg) skated before practice yesterday but there is still no time table for his return.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Boston Bruins, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks are reportedly interested in Carolina Hurricanes forward Micheal Ferland. Ferland is a pending UFA with 13G, 12A in 39 games played. I think Ferland would be a nice addition to the Black and Gold, but I don’t think he’s the missing piece needed for the 2nd line. Don Sweeney can do better than that. We’ll see how Cehlarik does tonight but #FindDavidKrejciARightWinger rages on.

In case you missed my blog yesterday, there was a great soundbite from David Pastrnak (from a Budweiser interview with him and Brad Marchand) about fighting John Scott. Scott replied today that he was happy Pasta didn’t agree to drop the gloves. He slept like a baby.

Puck drop in Philly is set for 7:30 pm. It’s a great night to win a hockey game.
