Andy Reid Admits He Sucked As A Coach In Philly, Is Still Buying His Players Cheeseburgers In KC

PHILLY – When Andy Reid was fired by the Eagles after the 2012 season, he decided he wanted to get back to doing what he does best: coaching. Reid returned to Philadelphia on Saturday to appear on a panel with Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff at the NFL’s Career Development Symposium at Penn’s Wharton School. Reid fielded a question about evaluating his shortcomings. It did not take much time for Reid to answer. “About a year ago, I found out what I wasn’t good at because [I was] out the door,” said Reid, now the Kansas City Chiefs coach. “I went back, and I looked at it, and . . . I drifted away from the thing I love doing most, and that was coaching.” Reid said he had a “phenomenal” offensive coordinator in Marty Mornhinweg, whom he entrusted with the offense. Former offensive coordinator Brad Childress used to tell Reid not to let his personality “leave the room,” and Reid said that happened during his final years in Philadelphia.

Sure, a NFC East title under Chip Kelly might have been enough to confirm firing Andy Reid was the right move. But right now I have never felt more validated. He knew his time was up and admitted he wasn’t the same coach he was towards the end of his tenure in Philly. Reid’s 110% right when he says he was focusing more on what players he had than managing the game (which he never did well to begin with). And that’s SCARY when that personnel included the likes of Chad Hall and Macho Harris getting PT.

But the cheeseburgers thing is what really seals the deal it in my mind. If you think the fat man would ever change his ways for the better you’re very, very wrong and even more sad. With every team focusing on sports science techniques to make every player the best possible specimen, Big Red is STILL doing “Fast Food Fridays”. Meanwhile, Chip is monitoring his players’ diets like a Anorexic chick counting calories and is forcing his boys wear shit to bed that’s only used by NASA. Like it or not, this is the direction the NFL is heading and every edge helps. I’m just happy we’re finally on the right side of the argument for once.

Calling Marty Mornhinweg a “phenomenal” offensive coordinator made me more mad than anything ever should. The entire room turned red and we blacked out before realizing that’s the Jets‘ problem now.
