Kevin Durant Thinks All The Warriors Will Get Statues

Very humble Kevin. Is this part of the pitch from GS management you think? I mean it’s pretty cocky to just assume everyone will get a statue, so I’m thinking they told Kevin that if he stays and they win more titles that he’ll get a statue. If he leaves this summer though and they win the title, is 3 years enough to warrant a player getting a statue outside the arena? In the old days maybe not, but in today’s culture I could totally see it. Same with the jerseys being retired, that’s certainly losing it’s luster as well, and I say this as a fan of a team that has like 55 numbers retired.

It wouldn’t be the first time a franchise has multiple statues, the Lakers have a million outside of Staples, Philly has two, but Julius Erving isn’t exactly outside of Wells Fargo I don’t think, the Jazz have two for Stockton/Malone, the Bulls have some for Jordan/Pippen, so it’s not crazy to think a team would have multiple statues, but should Durant get one if that were to happen? I get the three titles and three years angle, he’s certainly been a pretty important piece of their success, but at the same time shouldn’t statues be reserved for players who spent a shit ton of time with that franchise? Now all you have to do is be part of an already existing super team for a few years and you get one? That’s seems weak.

If it were to happen, I’d be curious how it would all work. Would it be just one grouping of Draymond/Curry/Klay/Durant or would they all be individual statues scattered around the new arena. If so, what should each pose be?

Steph Curry

This is a no brainer right? Perhaps the greatest shooter of all time, you need to have the statue look something like this. Sure it may be more expensive for them to also make a defender, but nothing epitomizes Curry more than this image

Draymond Green

When you think Draymond Green, you think of an asshole who can’t stop kicking people in the dick. Why not enshrine him doing his most famous move and make it a kicking motion. Warriors fans can spinzone it forever about how “hard” Draymond plays and that even though there was a plethora of evidence that Draymond legit kicks people, they can forever be delusional about it.

Klay Thompson

I didn’t want to just do another shot form statue because Curry has one, so why no something like this. Shows the dominance of the Splash Brothers, you get the three point symbol with the hands, and for a guy that doesn’t show much emotion it’s either something like this or just him on the bench with a blank stare.

Kevin Durant

wait no sorry

I feel like this is Durant’s go to stance, so why not just keep it simple. You could also replicate his three point shot that won them back to back Finals as those were his signature Warrior moments, either one works.

For me, I feel like to get a statue you should have to have been part of that organization for a longggggg time. If this group is together for just three years, you can give them to the other Warriors, but having Durant too doesn’t feel right, especially when the fanbase definitely loves Steph more. When you think about the Warriors, you think about Steph and Klay, you don’t really think about Durant. With any of those guys who have statues that I listed, do you have that same problem? No.

So what do you think, if they win one more titles and then break up, should they all get statues outside the new arena? Just Steph? I can’t be living in a world where everyone and their goddamn mother gets a statue now. Those are supposed to mean something.
