I miss this Sammy Sosa. Now when I google him he looks like "Whitey" from My Myself & Irene, but that's for another day. Here we have Sammy Sosa hitting a game tying two-run homer in Game 1 of the 2003 NLCS against the Marlins. I didn't do much digging, but I'm sure that this was the year that the Cubs broke through and made it to the World Series for the first time since 1749, right?
Sosa came up in a big moment and absolutely delivered, he actually delivered onto the street outside. Fans in the street going wild trying to find the ball and take it home. Doesn't get much bigger than being down to your last out and tying it up. Sammy knew it right off the bat too, that hop says it all. For what it's worth, I think the hop was the COOLEST thing you could do after hitting a bomb. Griffey would lay the bat down and walk, Bonds would admire his shots, Ortiz kind of whipped the bat around and leaned back, but nothing is cooler than the hop right into his trot. If you didn't grow up trying to replicate Sosa's swing and hop, you had a terrible childhood.
It's a damn crime that Sosa isn't in Cooperstown, that needs to happen.
