Maryland Basketball Tips Off Their 100th Season Tonight
I used to be obsessed with college basketball. Completely obsessed. If I had to rank my favorite teams growing up it would go 1) Washington Capitals, 1b) Maryland hoops. Those Gary Williams teams playing in the ACC, having those rivalry games vs Duke, it was the greatest. I’ve never forgiven Shane Battier for ruining my life. Duke’s “Miracle Minute” will forever haunt me the same way Steve Blake’s steal will forever be one of my favorite sports moments of all time
I mean this freaking team was just unreal
And that’s why I loved college basketball so much, because you could follow these kids and watch them grow up and then finally accomplish what they set out to do. Now, I find it so hard to follow college basketball because anyone that is even a little bit good is a 1 and done. By the time I learn the 18 year old’s name, he’s already declared for the draft. The amount of turnover just isn’t fun. I like watching guys develop, teams coming back and playing together year after year, not Kentucky having a whole new starting 5 every year. Maybe I’m old and washed, but that ain’t what made me fall in love with college basketball.
And that’s why I’m excited for this year’s team. A bunch of guys came back, namely Bruno Fernando who should be a double double machine this year. Anthony Cowan is back and should be awesome once again. And it pains me that scouts realized how good Kevin Huerter, because having him back this year would have been yuuuge, but hopefully Aaron Wiggins is able to step in and fill that slot admirably.
So here’s to another year of Maryland hoops. May 2018-2019 be as glorious as this one:
