Tonight Was Hockey Fights Cancer Night, So Brian Boyle Inevitably Scored His First Career Hat Trick
Brian Boyle is my favorite story in the NHL. As we know, Boyle was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia last September and just over a year later, his cancer is in remission and he is out here scoring hat tricks like it’s no big deal.
Boyle added three goals tonight, two coming on the power play in the Devils 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Boyle has 6 goals on the year through 11 games.
Brian joined us on Spittin’ Chiclets a few months back and I got to meet him a few weeks later at a charity event and he couldn’t of been a more grounded, down to earth guy. He spent about 10 minutes pumping Whitney’s tires about how good of a hockey player he was in his hay day, so you know he must be a great guy.
But all kidding aside, Brian Boyle is an inspiration to everyone out there is who fighting this awful disease and I couldn’t be happier to see his success continue both on and off the ice. Also…it still blows my mind that this guy was diagnosed with cancer last season and still played 69 games. Talk about being the definition of a hockey guy. This guy beat cancer while scoring 13 goals in the national hockey league. What a legend.
