Joe Horn Damn Near Cried After Michael Thomas Did His Flip Phone Touchdown Celebration

NOLA- Joe Horn said he was working out by himself at a gym in his hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, when he saw Michael Thomas pay homage to his famous cellphone touchdown celebration Sunday (Nov. 4) against the Los Angeles Rams at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. When Horn saw Thomas cross the goal line on his 72-yard touchdown catch and race to the goal post in the south end zone to retrieve a cell phone he had hidden under the pad beneath the stanchion, he got emotional. “When I saw him bring out that cellphone, I teared up,” Horn said. “That’s something that some kids don’t do, to pay homage to an old soul. For him to do it on a national stage took a lot of courage. I’m humbled.”

“I’m his biggest fan now,” said Horn, who played for the Saints from 2000 to 2006 and still ranks as the Saints’ third all-time-leading receiver with 523 receptions for 7,622 yards and 50 touchdowns. “My family and I owe him.”

Who would have thought that the most beautiful moment of the NFL season would have taken place because someone pulled a cell phone out of an upright’s pads and rubbed a touchdown directly in the Rams faces? Not me, not you, definitely not Joe Horn, and probably not even Michael Thomas, who apparently bought the phone at a shitty liquor store the morning of the game.

You want to talk about finding love in a hopeless place. What do you call finding something that could make a grown man cry tears of joy in a New Orleans liquor store on a Sunday morning? I have been to a New Orleans liquor store on a Sunday morning and trust me, there are not a lot of smiles to be seen, at least until the Hurricanes start flowing again. Michael Thomas didn’t know it at the time, but he made a man’s year with that little gesture, even if he also ensured that he will get some part of his body stomped on by Ndamukong Suh if he ever catches a ball anywhere near the line of scrimmage during the rematch between these two teams in the NFC Championship game.

Also I don’t think Dictator Goodell can fine Thomas for that celebration now, right? Michael Thomas did more for Joe Horn than Goodell has willfully done for any retired player during his tenure. Actually now that I think about it, I could see Goodell fining Thomas as well as retroactively fining Joe Horn for doing the celly 15 years ago. But considering we live in the social media age of 2018, both fines will likely be paid for by Motorola or some company looking to revive the flip phone industry. Goodell’s ass has been firmly shoved into the jackpot once again by this wonderful sports moment. Now go call your parents and tell you that you love them because old people love to know that they are remembered (this isn’t old shaming since I am also old).
