I For One Am Appalled the Astros Used a Camera to Spy on an Opponent's Signals

SourceWhatever the Houston Astros were trying to do at Fenway Park during Game 1 of the ALCS on Saturday night, they got caught.

In the third inning of the first game of the series, security removed a man claiming to be an Astros employee from the media-credentialed area next to the Boston Red Sox dugout, according to multiple security sources who were on the scene at the time of the incident. The man had a small camera and was texting frequently, but did not have a media credential.

After the man was removed another Astros staffer intervened – according to sources who were on the scene – and tried to convince security that he was authorized to be in the area next to the dugout. The man was not allowed back into the credentialed area, but was allowed to remain in the ballpark.

Security sources say they had been warned about the man, because of some suspicious activity in Houston’s ALDS series against the Cleveland Indians.

Far be it for me to step on the toes of my pal Carrabis as he’s done incredible work getting out in front of this major news story as it’s been breaking, even in the middle of an ALCS game. But I would be derelict in my duty if I didn’t speak up on this topic as well.

I am shocked shocked! at what is being alleged here. The idea of a team trying to steal another team’s signs is appalling. The fact that they’d do it with spy cameras, is worse than appalling. It calls into question the very integrity of the game.

There’s only one way to approach this massive scandal of epic proportions. We need more than an investigation by MLB. We need fines. Draft picks taken away. U.S. Senators threatening hearings. Pandering for votes. Talk about suspending AJ Hinch. Or maybe banning him for life like he’s Pete Rose. Class Action lawsuits from the fans of New York who claim they’ve been defrauded.

Mostly we need – NEED – to see the tapes. The can’t be thrown away. They must be released to the public. Otherwise this calls into question everything the Astros have ever won and slapping a big, ginormous asterisk on their championship like the Scarlet Letter. Only then can the sport be saved and our nation can believe in the integrity of the sport again.

Great job, Astrocheats.
