Here We Go Again! John Mara Said He Wishes Odell Beckham Would Create Headlines For What He Does On The Field Instead Of What He Does Off The Field
It’s been a while (like 10 months), but I think it’s time to cue the music again!
Man it feels good to have the Giants Ownership vs. Odell Beckham feud back in our lives. This time with the multiplier that Odell locked up the bag and has no reason to quietly bite his tongue as ownership fires shots in the media. Sprinkle in a disaster of a season where a beloved franchise quarterback fades into bolivian* while a once-promising team turns into a dead dog for the 2nd year in a row and we have potential for an all-time New York media firestorm. Get the headline writers and trade rumor machines fired up because newspaper families are about to have a very Merry Christmas!
Now I’m with John Mara on one thing. I want Odell to make headlines for his play too. Granted an average offensive line and a quarterback that isn’t #done would help make that a reality considering the start of Odell’s career on the field with either of those things puts him at a historic level. But still, I don’t want to have a mini heart attack (stress related not fat related) after reading how Odell beat up a Giants fan only to see this is what happened to make that splashy headline possible.
Do I wish Odell Beckham didn’t fight inanimate objects? Yes. Do I wish Odell didn’t do an interview calling out his teammates with Lil Wayne? Yes. Am I losing my fucking mind that those last two questions are actually real things that happened with my team? Yes.
But I don’t want to hear John Mara criticize someone else for how they communicated in the media after the way Coughlin’s “resignation”, Eli’s benching, and basically the entire Josh Brown saga was handled. New York fans are so busy complaining about clown shoe owners like James Dolan and the Wilpons that nobody seems to mention the raging dumpster fire that has started roaring in East Rutherford the last few years. I don’t know the flow chart Mara used that told him calling out his super talented, super eccentric wide receiver in the media during a lost season was a good idea. But I can promise him that this will just lead to more headaches and PR fires where Mara apologizes for not communicating correctly than it’s worth. Oh yeah and trade rumors. There will be a shit ton of those, which is always great for team morale. Nonetheless, the Giants are entering Fuck This Franchise mode at a dizzying pace, which given the state of most New York sports franchises, is about right.
Now if you will excuse me, I am going to watch Oregon highlights from Saturday’s win over Washington and convince myself that everything will be OK once Justin Herbert gets here. Oregon QBs always work out in the NFL, right?
TL;DR- My message to anyone in the Giants organization, from ownership to the hot dog guys:
