Last Night In The NBA: Barstool Sports Has Officially Invaded The NBA
Good morning everybody and welcome to another edition of Last Night In The NBA where we bring you up to speed on everything that went down from the night before in the Association. We had five more games on the schedule on Wednesday, and while you may have been watching the Yankees whoop that ass, you just so happened to miss some fun ass basketball. That’s OK, don’t be mad at yourself, remember that’s why you have me. Here is everything you missed.
New York Knicks (2-0) 107 vs Brooklyn Nets (0-1) 102
Chances Knicks fans stay calm right now? Zero percent. There’s superteams and then there’s whatever the hell they are building in NY, but I’ll remind you they look this good without their best player which is usually a great sign. Sure you may say “It’s just the Nets” well I’ll have you know there are people out there that think BKN can make the playoffs this year, so I won’t knock the Knicks for that. Instead, we should celebrate Enes Kanter’s 22/20 performance on 7-14 shooting
People dog on Kanter because he’s allergic to defense, but he’s definitely one of the more talented offensive bigs in the league and this was a good example of that. However, the story of the Knicks has to be the play of their rookies. I know NY has a spotty draft history, but it looks like they nailed it with Knox/Trier/Robinson
I say it’s OK to overreact about these three. Why not? I just want my internet pals Clem and Reags to be happy. This is also a big season for Frankie Ntilikina, who is so goddamn young but already showing flashes of a legit two way guard
Despite the slow start in which they scored just 17 points in the first quarter, the Knicks offense took off after a 33 point second and from there they never looked back. I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but the Atlantic Division may end up being STACKED.
For BKN, they shot the ball like shit, just 39/19% splits, and I guess D’Angelo Russell was nice
And Radions Kurucs which is an outrageous name had a solid 13 points in his debut
but as always, when it comes to the Nets it’s their pathetic defense that ultimately did them in. Everyone sucked Sean Mark’s dick about bringing this team back and rebuilding, well let’s see just how good they end up being.
Chicago Bulls (1-1) 82 vs Milwaukee Bucks (1-0) 116
Well, we knew the Bucks were way better than the rebuilding Bulls so this result isn’t all that surprising. The Bucks had a pretty standard showing, with 49/33% split, 15 3PM, and just 13 TOs. The starters were solid, with Giannis throwing up a little 19/13/5 on 7-10, he couldn’t be stopped, and then Middleton a nice 15/5 on 5-8, and Bledsoe 16/10/6 on 6-9. When that trio has that type of production, you most likely are going to lose by 30+
We also got our first look at rookie Donte DiVincenzo, and while he struggled from the field at 1-9, he did show his playmaking ability and vision which was a nice surprise. I’m not too concerned about his shots not falling, and I think before you know it he’ll be an impactful player for them. Also it was a quiet night for Thon Maker who had just 3 points in his 21 minutes, and I’ll admit that surprised me.
For Bucks fans though, I’m sure they are just happy to finally have a real system and a real offense around Giannis. Pretty good debut for their new coach, and you could make the argument that it was their coaching that has help them back all these years.
For CHI, not great. Jabari was probably a little nervous facing his old team in his old arena and he went 1-12, LaVine a stellar 3-10 and Holiday 2-10. I don’t know who you are beating with that type of shooting, certainly not MIL.
But hey, crazy eyes Bobby Portis did have 17/5 off the bench!
Detroit Pistons (1-0) 97 vs Oklahoma City Thunder (0-1) 91
It may be preseason, but Andre Drummond beasted big time. He had 31/16 on 14-21 shooting in his 34 minutes, and he was for sure the most dominant player on the floor for both teams.
Playing without Blake the Pistons really didn’t have too many other offensive options, and I would say Drummond looks ready for the season, he even got into a preseason scuffle!
Love a good preseason scuffle. Anyway things were mostly close until Ish Smith hit the dagger three at the end to seal it for DET, and honestly if they can stay healthy, I’m riding them to snag one of the lower playoff spots. Does that make sense? Not really, but With Reggie Jackson back and Blake for a whole year, I say they snag it.
For OKC, with Westbrook out that meant it was the Dennis Schroder show, and I’ll admit he had a pretty good Thunder debut
He’s a starting level PG so having him for this exact reason is pretty nice. I mean what was their alternative, playing Raymond Felton more minutes? Gross. Something tells me this game goes differently if Westbrook and George both play, so I wouldn’t sweat it as a Thunder fan.
New Zealand Breakers 86 vs Phoenix Suns (1-1) 91
I always knew the Barstool logo would look dope on a jersey. Pretty awesome to see if we’re being honest, and there’s no denying that we have invaded the NBA. Barstool Sports was visible on an NBA court during a real (fake) NBA game. What a world. As a result, while I usually leave these non NBA teams out of the blog, we’ll celebrate this one with a little video of Corey Webster and his 27/7/4
If any NBA team now wants this logo on their jersey, my DMs are open.
For PHX, I mean what more is there to say about DeAndre Ayton. He had a double double in the first half and has come into the league and not skipped a beat. Guy is such a goddamn monster
Also not a bad night for Trevor Ariza who had 16/6/3, and it’s good to see him playing well before the Rockets ultimately trade back for him in February because Daryl Morey is an evil genious
Second year player Josh Jackson was decent with his 11/9, but his 7 TOs were a problem which helped PHX tally a total of 22 TOs. They shot 39/22% so you can assume had they played a real NBA team they’d have gotten smoked. Gotta love preseason though!
Minnesota Timberwolves (1-1) 101 vs Los Angeles Clippers (2-0) 128
Solid 35/19% with 18 TOs for MIN, they don’t miss Jimmy Butler at all! Wiggins and KAT combined for just 30 points which isn’t going to cut it
and as we know, this team STINKS on the defensive end. At this point I’m sure all TWolves fans want to get Teague the hell out (0-7) and give the hometown kid Tyus Jones (12 points) more run, and who could blame them. Sadly Thibs hates young players so that’s never going to happen. Fun times!
For LAC, well, let’s just say everyone went off
I’m most happy to see Gallo healthy and balling, because I think people forget just how good he is since he’s always hurt. If he can stay right, this Clippers team can definitely fight for that 7/8 seed in the West just like they did at times last year without him. I mean a 40, 29, 28, 31 offensive performance from them is no joke, and I know it was against MIN’s defense, but they also played without three rotation guys in Avery Bradley, Milos, and Lou Williams. That’s a scary thought that their offense could have looked even better. Maybe Doc Rivers doesn’t have to rebuild!
And that’s it! You’re now all caught up on everything that went down last night in the NBA. We’re back at it tonight with just two games, IND/HOU and SAC/LAL. As always feel free to watch football tonight and just make sure you check back in the morning for everything you may have missed.
