2018 NBA Season Preview Series: Los Angeles Lakers
Guys, did you learn nothing from last year? While I pride myself on being honest and unbiased for this blog series and will continue to do so for the teams we have left, I have to stress that just like in 2017 that you are out of your goddamn mind if you think I’m going to spend 2,000 words hyping up the goddamn Lakers. Are you new here? I would rather chop off my hands than do that. So sure, maybe you wanted to see how LeBron was going to make it work with this roster, or what trends we should be looking at to see if the Lakers are going to make the playoffs, but honestly, I could give two shits. It’s important to remember our roots and never forget where you came from. Seeing as how this started as a Boston blog, my hands are sort of tied here. Instead of spending time writing about it, let’s just go to the tape
Shit how did these get in here? Trying to figure out how to delete ASAP.
Here’s what we know. The Lakers are already trying to temper the expectations of this team. As if adding the best player in the world is the same thing as adding an end of bench player. We know it’ll probably be about a month before Rondo fights someone in the locker room. We know that from a talent perspective, outside of LeBron this is not enough to compete in the West. A good collection of young talent sure, but without LeBron this is a lottery team. Good news is they have LeBron and he carries like 15-20 wins by himself. Many consider this a paid leave season for LeBron, that really things are all about this summer and what next year’s team looks like. Hell, the LA media is already asking questions as to how LeBron can win over Lakers fans. How ridiculous is that? Kobe stans stay stanning I guess.
The Lakers will obviously be must watch because of LeBron and the collection of misfits that make up their second unit, and hey maybe Brandon Ingram takes a leap so he can stay on pace with Jaylen Brown’s development. Either way, I have the Lakers as a 5/6 seed at BEST, with a 7/8 seed probably more realistic. I promise next year once Magic actually builds a real roster, the Lakers will get a real preview. But until then? Fuck em.
P.S.
How long until LaVar starts to take shots at LeBron for taking the ball out of Lonzo’s hands? You can take that to the bank
Official Greenie Prediction: 48 wins
