A Former Dallas Cowboys WR Is Back On Their Roster
After last week’s bro date between Jerry and Dez, this isn’t the former Cowboys WR I thought would be making his return. But here we are. Brice Butler has now confirmed the swirling reports over the last couple of days that he would, in fact, be rejoining his former team after a failed stint in Arizona.
And don’t forget that these rumors started BEFORE the Giants game. It seems like they were planning to make a move to add another WR to the six they already have no matter how to game turned out. Jason Garrett claims that they’re just simply looking to add depth, but it’s more than that imo.
This is an obvious sign that the Cowboys front office/staff is and was not sold on the WR corps this year. Go figure.
And sure, they got the W on Sunday night. (Although, it’s not hard to look good against the Giants right now. That offensive line is brutal). Sure, the play calling looked a lot better (in spots). The offense was much more balanced than in Week 1. Etc, etc.
But it wasn’t perfect. It was better, not great. There were still some pretty predictable plays. Third downs were tough. And Dak didn’t hit the 200 yards passing mark. Again.
Bringing in a familiar face (albeit not the familiar face I would’ve chosen first) will surely help Scott Linehan’s offense take that next step, right? He’s proven deep threat. It certainly can’t hurt.
On-the-field benefits aside – and maybe I’m alone in this – but it does feel like a semi-bizarre move seeing as Butler didn’t exactly leave on the best terms.
Remember when he went scorched Earth on the Cowboys after they didn’t re-sign him? And threw the Dez Bryant, the Cowboys’ all-time leader in TD catches, a tad under the bus? And said he was pissed at his coaches?
Water under the bridge, apparently.
Why? Because Dak Prescott wanted him back.

The receivers we have are great. Every single one of them, we’ve worked really hard on everything that we’ve done and we’ve got a long way to go but we’ve got the right attitude and the right approach as we’re going forward.
But Brice is a guy that I’ve been comfortable with the last two years. I know what he can offer, he can stretch the defense deep, he can run over the top, he’s a great route runner.
I’m a girl. I hold grudges. I also work for the biggest grudge holder on the planet. So, I don’t think I could get over all the shit talking. But then again, desperate times. Desperate measures. No matter what anyone says, the ‘Boys in Dallas were desperate after that pathetic performance in Carolina.
Butler spent three years in Dallas where he caught 43 passes for 794 yards. For those bad at math, that’s an average 19 ypc. That’s pretty good. Plus, comfort blanket weapons for QBs are always a positive.
The news is official, but it’s TBD on what the Cowboys are doing to make room for him on the roster.
In the meantime, here’s the Internet’s favorite Cowboys fan back at it again.
