Apple Just Went After Life Alert With Their New Watch
Come on Apple, do you really have to go after such a wholesome brand!?
Today during Apple’s annual cult mee–, uh, I mean product release event, Tim Cook and the gang announced the newest Apple Watch, the Series 4. It has some pretty cool features, but the one thing everyone is talking about is the new fall detection feature.
Seems pretty cool. The watch can determine if you fell, slipped or tripped and then will give you the option to call emergency services. If you don’t move for a minute, the watch will make the phone call for you. Again, pretty cool, but let’s be honest, this is a rip-off of an iconic brand…
I am not sure if Life Alert commercials are still airing these days, but they have one of the most memorable taglines of all time, “Help! I’ve fallen and can’t get up!”
That’s some iconic advertising right there. I think they even advertised on Nickelodeon, which is truly insane. Nothing like watching ‘Ren & Stimpy’ or ‘Rugrats’ and seeing some old lady tumbling down an entire flight of stairs.
They also had great graphics and print ads, as well. Look at this lady right here…
I don’t even think she needs help. She’s just pissed off. She’s giving a total death stare at the consumers looking at the ad. It’s almost like she didn’t even fall and she’s just messing with you.
Life Alert was simple, easy and straightforward. Now when someone falls down, they could be looking at their screen and get a Facebook notification that pops up over the emergency service button. Nothing like falling down and trying to call an ambulance only to get blocked because your watch wants to tell you that Blanche is attending next week’s Shuffle Board Tournament.
Apple just can’t leave the simple things alone, they have to go after every company and mom and pop production. Now we will have millennials throwing themselves down flights of stairs like they’re Justin Trudeau, just to see if their Apple Watch fall detection feature works.
