24-year-old Xander Schauffele Is Muddying The Ryder Cup Waters And I Love It
Our American guys are so fucking feisty it’s crazy. It’s an absolute bloodbath as we get down to the wire picking the last spot for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. No joke, our 13th guy is going to be hotter and more fierce than half the Euro roster. Sergio Garcia is swinging pillows at the golf ball. He’s taken more Friday trips home by himself this year than our team combined. We’re going to have to leave a Tony Finau or a Xander Schauffele at home. Xander’s leading the BMW, finished T6 and T2 at the U.S. and British Opens respectively, won 2017 rookie of the year, won the TOUR Championship, is the 20th-ranked player in the world (it’s a 24-man field), and probably won’t make the team. That’s amazing.
How about these two rounds of golf.
Pretty good! And of course, right there is Tony Finau. He’s the heavy favorite to snag the final captain’s pick and for good reason. Look at this season.
Masters, T10.
U.S. Open, 5th.
British Open, T9.
PGA, T42.
17th-ranked player in the world.
Five top-5s in his last 8 starts, nearly all of those against the toughest fields of the year.
And these are our number 12 and 13 guys we’re talking about here. This U.S. team is STACKED. If Xander wins this week, Jim Furyk’s going to have a brutally difficult decision on his hands… and that’s just fine by me.
