Tiger Shoots 8-under 62, Second Lowest Opening Round Of His Career. We're Not Done Here.
On Monday, Tiger stormed off the course at TPC Boston and declined to speak to the media. That’s rare for him. On Wednesday, he opted out of the pro-am for what many believed was the first time in his career.
Today, with the old putter in the bag — the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 with which he won 13 of his 14 major championships — Tiger fired an 8-under 62.
That’s the second lowest opening round of his entire career.
(still may not be good enough)
Here’s our scorecard (started on 10).
Tiger’s only been in the top-10 after the first round twice this season. After being plagued with slow starts through much of the year, it’ll be nice — and quite interesting — seeing how handles being near the top from here on out.
Here’s the shot of the day, a 3-iron from 230.
Let’s go through some highlights. Good start on 10.
Sexy wedge on 13.
And again on 7. At this point, we were 8-under through 16.
A closing birdie after a choppy 5-wood from the left rough on the par-5 ninth meant a 62. Nice day at the office.
Some quotes.
We scared 59 for a bit after a 7-under through 10 start; didn’t quite get there, but 8-under 62 sure will do. 9 fairways. 16 greens. 8-under. That’ll do.
Tiger’s off early tomorrow. Should be a fun Friday morning on our office streaming grind.
We’re not done here.
