In A Shocking Turn Of Events, I Have No Problem With The Celtics Starting Five 2K Ratings

One of the weirdest things we do as NBA fans is freak out about 2K ratings. To be honest the real NBA players actually get worked up about this too, and over the years there have been some injustices when it came to how the game ranked certain guys. So with 2K having some sort of release party last night, I’ve started to see more and more team’s rankings come out and I was fully prepared to be mad online about the disrespect given to our beloved Celtics. But then something weird happened, I saw the tweet above, looked at the number and the name next to it and realized I wasn’t at all upset. Obviously Kyrie was going to lead the team and be in the 90s, and immediately I noticed 2K realized what a beast Tatum was last year, bumping him up from a low 80s last year to a very respectable 87. No problem whatsoever with Horford’s 86, I’m more interested in seeing how his 3P rating improved. We all know his screen setting rating is 100, but I would imagine his rebounding rating took a little hit, which is why he is slightly below 90.

With Hayward, let this be a reminder to all the Celtics fans out there just how good he really is. 2K easily could have had him an 87 or 86, but they know what’s up. They know how legit of a two way player he is, and the rest of us will be reminded just how fucking good he is once the season starts. Calling him our second best player is something I have no problem with. When it came to Jaylen, if I had to guess his FT shooting and lack of handles is what dropped his rating to an 84. He probably has 99 dunking and all that fun stuff, but until he locks up his handle and his offensive awareness, a solid B feels right. One thing I appreciated in 2K18 was how realistic they made Jaylen in the open court. You get him on any sort of fast break, he’s dunking over EVERYONE which I found extremely accurate.

Now since we only got the starting 5 in this graphic, I was curious how everyone else ranked and did a little research. Unfortunately the rest haven’t been released, so here’s my best guess (last year’s rating in parenthesis)

Now because I’m cheap (see: Greenberg) and just bought 2K18 last September, I most likely won’t be buying this new version because that shit is goddamn expensive. I’m also way too entrenched in my current myGM mode where Tatum won MVP in Year 2 and is literally unstoppable, so unless 2K wants to hook a blogger up, I’ll just update my rosters or something. Also, I find it extremely bullshit that you can’t transfer your myGM or My Player from year to year, especially with how fucking long it takes to make your player good in this game. Maybe I’m just an idiot and the only person on the planet who doesn’t know how to do that, but 2K not giving you that option to my knowledge has made me mad online for years. They figure out a way to keep your shit going with each new version, I’ll suck it up and buy it.
