Greg Bird is Truly Something Else
The Yankees had themselves had a very nice come from behind win last night against the White Sox. Miggy Andujar and Aaron Hicks belted two big home runs to tie the game late while Neil Walker walked it off in the ninth with a blast of his own. It was a win that for sure put a smile on everyone’s faces, especially Greg Bird. I don’t have a problem with positivity, although many of you probably think I don’t have a positive bone in my body, but I have a problem with Greg Bird. Since his grand slam against the Blue Jays, Greg is 0-21 while having no goddamn clue of how to hit the baseball. He’s lost the right to play everyday and is now resorted to being a platoon guy against righties at best. Last night he got the start and immediately did something in classic Greg Bird fashion.
He dropped a ball thrown directly to him. My dog catches that ball. It was insane that he dropped that ball. Bird played out the rest of the game going 0-4, drop his batting average to .196. He came up in the 8th inning with the go-ahead run on second base with two outs. Bird worked the count into a hitter’s dream of 3-1. He got a fastball down the pipe and what did he do? Weakly popped it up to shallow left field to end the inning. Big time at bat. The pitch recognition? Oh baby it was there.
After the game, the locker room was certainly in a chipper mood after the walk off W. Greg Bird was ecstatic about his performance. Just laughing off his dropped ball because of his glove. Being thrilled about putting the bat on the ball even though he didn’t reach base. I don’t get it. None of the reporters were laughing with him. It was a super awkward minute of answers.
What the fuck was that? What could he possibly be so happy about? I understand he’s got this easygoing attitude, which is fine, but when you’re an embarrassment to the team and the organization, just laughing and smiling like that is simply insane. There are actually people out there that defend him still. They think it’s fine he’s so happy about dropping a ball that easily could have led to a run. How about be accountable one single fucking time? One time. People think I hate this team, but in actuality the only guy I hate is Greg Bird. He’s the master of doing nothing and getting credit for it. This fucking guy, man, he’s something. Nick Swisher was a super positive guy, but when he was slumping do you think he was laughing away like that? No chance. There’s a time and place for everything, and when you’re 0-21 and making errors all over the place I don’t think laughing away to the media is the way to this city’s heart. There have been some infuriating Yankees to come through this organization in my life time, but Greg Turd takes the cake.
P.S. He’ll definitely hit a walk off homer in the playoffs and make my brain mush.
