NBA Summer Workout SZN: Carmelo Anthony Edition
Alright Rockets fans, this is for you! By now HOU fans are well on their way to talk themselves into 2018 Melo actually working and being a useful weapon in their high powered offense, so this video will only fuel that fire. You think they care that this is against a bunch of nobodies? Nope. What stood out to me was the fact that Melo didn’t rock a hoodie, which has to mean he’s taking this seriously. Hoodie Melo flamed out in OKC, but new sort of in shape looking Melo for the Rockets? Well that’s something entirely different!
I know this video differs from some of the other NBA runs we’ve seen, but it still puts things into perspective just how fucking good Melo is. Like sure maybe he’s washed up by NBA standards in most areas, but in terms of an open gym the guy is absolutely ridiculous. The one thing I can say Melo hasn’t lost is pretty legit footwork, and I suppose you don’t become one of the best scorers in NBA history without having great feet. He still looks like he can get his shot off whenever he wants, against any non NBA defender, and look good while doing it. He’s joining a team in HOU that gets their rocks off through isolation basketball, so seeing him still look pretty solid with getting into his jump shot off the dribble is exactly what Rockets fans have been dreaming about since he was initially waived by the Hawks.
You take that video, with this little nugget
and we’re right about the time where Melo usually ropes another fanbase into believing in him. If the Rockets were must watch last year because of the Harden/CP3 pairing, I’d say they are just as must watch this season, especially if they are going to get a committed Melo. Because let’s face it, there’s no more excuses. You wanted to talk about how he didn’t have enough talent in NY fine, but there was more than enough talent in OKC, and all the sudden that was a bad fit. If it also doesn’t work in HOU with the talent they have, maybe it’s a Melo problem and not an everyone else problem.
Either way, I just want to caution Rockets fans and tell them to take a deep breath. You don’t want to be like OKC fans last summer and start swooning over a Melo summer workout video, but at the same time don’t completely ignore it.
