1 Click = 1 Respect For Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty" Phase

TF - Christina Aguilera has opened up about being pitted against Britney Spears back in the early 2000s.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the pop star recalled how during the time of her “Stripped” (2002) makeover — which included black and platinum blonde striped hair, belly button rings, and chaps — MTV categorized Aguilera as the “bad girl,” while Spears was marketed as the “good girl.”

“It’s hard to hear yourself being called names,” Aguilera told the publication for their October cover story. “I remember being hurt by these commercials on MTV, pitting Britney as the good girl and me as the bad girl. It’s like, if I’m going to be demure and innocent, that’s okay. But if I’m going to just be myself, I’m trouble.”

I wanted to give a quick respect to Christina Aguilera today. She had an interview with Cosmo where she touched on how hard it was being the “bad girl” while Britney Spears was the “good girl”. I want Christina to know, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. We all appreciated it. The Kleenex industry appreciated it. We all appreciated it. The “Dirrty” phrase of her life was one of the happiest times of mine. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I couldn’t believe my ears at all. When she was singing “Sweat until my clothes come off” and “Sweat dripping over my body” 13 year old me would rip off my socks quicker than you could imagine.

And by the way, I must have missed the whole “Britney is the good girl” thing. I thought she was a bad bitch too. Mandy Moore dancing in front of the VW Bugs was the good girl.

But anyway, thank you Christina. Kids these days just don’t understand. They can log onto Instagram and see soft core porn whenever they want. Us? We had to watch TRL to catch a minute of a Christina Aguilera video, or stay up til 11 on a school night to watch Howard Stern on E!. It was a fucking grind but I think my generation is better for it.

Christina, thank you for your service.
