Court Overrules a Judge's Decision To Send a Man To Jail For Getting a Job at Michael's Instead of Home Depot
Alfred Scott was arrested for a first-time marijuana offense last year, but he was willing to plead guilty and he even lined up a full-time job at Home Depot to show he deserved mercy.
But when that job fell through and he got a job at Michael’s instead, Judge Russell Healey seemed to insist that the job needed to be at Home Depot. Healey decided his mercy had been worn out. For getting a job at the wrong store, Healey sent Scott to jail for 90 days.
That decision was overturned last Friday by an appellate court that said Healey failed to find Scott had willfully violated his probation.
Scott’s sentencing score was so low that state prison wasn’t even a possibility. But Judge Healey told him he would face 90 days in county jail for selling marijuana. When Scott said he had a job offer at Home Depot, Healey offered mercy, saying he’d let him out of jail on the condition “that he gets a job, full-time job, or show at least five applications per week until he gets a job.”
But a Department of Corrections probation officer said Home Depot rescinded the job offer likely because of the conviction, but “he’s been complying with everything I asked him to do.”
Something I learned in my time at college was the real rivalry between Home Depot and Lowe’s. To the average idiot like myself, who rarely finds a reason to step inside either store, there does not seem to be much contention. That’s until you meet people from opposing sides. I have two very good friends who will go to fucking war for those stores: one for Home Depot and one for Lowe’s. It’s insane and hilarious at the same time. I mean they’re pretty much the same exact store, but to these two guys they couldn’t be more different. Each view the other as a terroristic organization. They probably secretly blame 9/11 on their rival store. Well, unfortunately for Alfred Scott, he ran into a judge that was a Home Depot truther, Russell Healey. Whether he will admit it or not, Russell Healey either consciously or subconsciously is a Home Depot Stan.

Scott’s job there fell apart and he instead started working at Michael’s. That sent Healey, a Home Depot Stan, over the top. How dare he disrespect such an amazing working establishment. To Healey, this was like spitting God in the face. What did Healey do in response? He sent Scott to jail for 90 days. Incredible. Such an outrageous move, but I respect it. Alfred Scott was working 60 hours a week between Michael’s and McDonalds, but that wasn’t good enough. Prison it is!
The best part of this is that Healey has a history of making outrageous decisions in court.
In the case of a woman who shoplifted $17.19 of food from Walmart, he declared her a “danger to society,” something that should have been decided by a jury, the appellate court ruled.
I mean this guy is a wild man. It must suck knowing your case is about to be heard from Healey. He’s a goddamn wild card. If you steal a gum-ball from a 99 cent machine you might be facing the death penalty if he draws your case. What a monster. Thank God for the appellate court.
Obviously this judge resides in Florida.
