Wake Up With Steven Souza Jr Making An Unreal Catch To Preserve Jordan Zimmermann's No-Hitter On The Last Day Of The 2014 Season
Forget any play that Bryce Harper has ever made, this is the best play in Nationals history. This was the last day of the 2014 Regular Season and again, the Nats were headed to the playoffs and were a shoo in for their first trip for the World Series (spoiler alert – they didn’t win a playoff series). Jordan Zimmermann was fantastic that year (14-5 2.66 ERA), but he was even better on this day. He brought a no-hitter into the 9th inning, and with 2 outs, faced Christian Yelich.
Steven Souza Jr was inserted into the game for defensive purposes right before the bottom of the 9th and boy did that move pay off. Yelich stings one to left field and it sends Souza running. It for sure looks like it’s gonna drop and the no-hitter is going to be broken up. Nope, not on Souza’s watch. He makes an AMAZING diving catch to preserve the no-no and close out the year. I mean there aren’t many better ways to end a season for a teaming going into the playoffs. An absolutely awesome catch in an insane situation, especially as a rookie.
That may have been the best play to end a no-no in history. They don’t get much better than this.
