Hollywood Is Apparently Making A Prequel To "The Sandlot" For Some Reason
EW- Twentieth Century Fox is in the early stages of developing a prequel to the 1993 coming-of-age comedy about a ragtag team of baseball-obsessed kids, EW has confirmed. David Mickey Evans, the director and co-writer of the original Sandlot, is attached to pen the new script with newcomer Austin Reynolds. Plot details have yet to emerge, but according to Deadline Hollywood, which first reported the news, the story could involve the legend of the Beast, the massive English mastiff known for hoarding stray baseballs and haunting kids’ dreams.
Yeahhhhhh, I think I am going to have to go pass on this prequel just like I have with like 90% of the recycled nonsense Hollywood is greenlighting these days. They already sullied The Sandlot’s good name with those two shitty sequels. We don’t need to learn how the baseball field was built, if The Great Bambino conceived The Great Hambino while barnstorming brothels in Cali, or what made The Beast such a nasty motherfucker. In fact, no matter what this prequel or the original movie says, Squints’ backstory for The Beast will forever be canon in my mind.
“The cops started getting phone calls from people reporting all the missing thieves” is a first ballot Hall of Fame quote and the funniest line of the whole movie
To be honest, I’m still recovering from finding out The Sandlot was filmed in Utah. I don’t need a fresh movie somehow retroactively ruining the time Benny pickled The Beast. Twentieth Century Fox already destroyed Star Wars for me with the prequels and that hunk of junk they called The Last Jedi. Please just leave Scotty Smalls & Co. alone or make it a sequel set in the present day that I can happily ignore and pretend it doesn’t exist.
