Pool Manager Fired For Calling The Cops On A Black Guy Who Wore Socks In The Pool

NY Times- Mr. Yates, 25, was watching the children play in the pool, sitting at the edge with his feet dipped in the water, when a woman who identified herself as a property manager asked him to remove his socks because they were not “proper pool attire,” the couple said. When he did not remove his socks or leave the property, they said, she called the police.

In an interview on Sunday, she said she felt racially targeted by the manager, whom she identified as Erica Walker. She said white people were wearing clothing other than swimsuits, such as hats or shirts, in the pool.

“It’s not the issue with socks,” Ms. Porter said. “If socks were not to be worn, that was very well fine. The issue was we were the only one addressed.”

The couple took the children back to the apartment, and Ms. Porter posted about the confrontation on Facebook. The next day, she said, the management company contacted her and offered her three months of free rent.

She later learned that Ms. Walker had been fired.

We’re into the dog days of summer. And that means heat. And heat means short tempers at the local pool. We’ve seen a rash of poolside racial confrontations and we’re not even halfway through July. The pool should cool tempers off! It should be a place that brings everyone together to swim in their collective pee. Instead, you have white people calling the cops on black people for swimming because they can’t believe their eyes. “But our neighbors said they couldn’t swim!” says a daughter to her shitty mother, yanking on her shirt sleeve to ask for clarity. Her mother simply stares at the swimmers and takes a long drag on her cigarette. “By Gawd, I’m callin’ the cops, so help me Jesus.”

These people (who call the cops) are so fucking dumb. Obviously it’s ignorant and racist to call the cops and hassle black people for doing totally normal things like grilling and swimming. But to do it knowing that somebody is filming you with his/her phone, in this age of social media? Might as well file your unemployment right then and there. But hey, you sure showed them. Definitely worth losing your job to prevent a guy from wearing socks in the pool.

And that brings us to the socks. Wearing socks in the pool is an offense that might warrant a police response. Anyone who has ever fallen into a body of water with their shoes on knows that it’s a major, major bummer. Having wet socks on your feet is one of the most unpleasant sensations in the world. Whether you’re golfing in the rain or skiing with cold feet, wet socks can ruin a day quicker than sitting on a melted recees cup such that everyone thinks you shit your pants with nut butter poop. So for this guy to knowingly wear his socks in the pool makes you think he either A) has the worst toe fungus in the world, or B) is trying to wash his socks with the chlorine/urine. Both options are cause for alarm. Luckily, he provided an explanation:

“I’m going to be in and out of the pool with the little kids and I don’t want my feet scorching on this ground,” he recalled.

I’m not using that gif because the guy is black. I’m using it because it’s the best gif to illustrate “that’s using your head.” I don’t want my feet scorching on the ground either. But he also brought flip-flops to the pool… so I’m befuddled.

Pretty well-handled by the police and the apartment complex though. Three months of free rent, and they fired her?! Not a bad day at the pool!
