Some Guy Took a Taxi Cab Home From Jail, But Couldn't Pay For It So He Was Sent Back to Jail

Authorities say a Florida man was returned to jail shortly after his release because he couldn’t pay the taxi driver that took him home from the jail.

Florida Today reports that 40-year-old Charles Folk was arrested Thursday morning and charged with petty theft.

Melbourne police say Folk hailed a taxi outside the Brevard County Jail Complex in Cocoa shortly after midnight. After traveling 30 miles to his Melbourne home, Folk told the driver that neither his sister nor his roommate could help him pay the $70 fare. The driver called the police.

Folk had previously been in jail for criminal mischief. Officials say he had been convicted of ransacking his own home and damaging his roommate’s belongings.

Folk was being held on $2,000 bail. Jail records didn’t list an attorney.

Charles Folk was that close to freedom. He was just a few steps from his bed where he could forget about spending the day in jail and then turn his brain off. His only error? He didn’t think of a contingency plan to pay for his $70 cab ride from jail. Kind of a problem. His only hope was that either his sister had enough cash lying around to spot him. If not for her, then somehow convince his roommate, whose property he just damaged and was sent to jail for, finds it in his heart to spot him. Neither plans worked and Charles Folk was sent back to jail. Tough luck.

I want to picture Charles asking his roommate for the money.

“Uhhhh….hey man I’m sorry for destroying our apartment and breaking all your stuff, is there anyway you could pay my cab so I don’t have to go back to jail?”

What followed was likely non-stop laughter. Yeah Charles you’re going back to jail buddy you idiot. The look on the jail guards’ faces when he came to the jail must have been priceless. Let’s all try to have a better Friday than Charles Folk.

Oh yeah, obviously this was in Florida. Where else would this happen?
