"Weird Al" Yankovic Closed His Last 77 Shows With 77 Different Covers - Here's All Of Them
I highly doubt this will surprise anyone, but I’m a pretty big Weird Al fan. Not like, one of his crazy fans who listens exclusively his non-parody polka catalogue (although it is worth checking out!), but I just think the guy is a legend and I have the utmost respect for him. He completely cornered the market on musical comedy for decades, never lost his fastball, and is still getting up on stage looking spry as ever to put on amazing shows. Oh, and the hits he’s got…have I mentioned the hits? Amish Paradise? White & Nerdy? Eat It? The Saga Begins? Another One Rides The Bus? YODA?! I mean, c’mon. Homeboy’s full of them. That’s not even the tip of the iceberg.
What gets lost what talking about Weird Al, though, is that he’s a ridiculously talented musician. It’s always, “Oh man, he sings the funny songs!” but never, “He knows how to play every song ever written…ON AN ACCORDION…and that’s the most impressive thing in the world.”
A few years ago, this started coming up more and more in interviews with people all over the industry, and I took a deep dive into the Yankovic world to see what all the hubbub was about (only to be amazed at how good this dude is at all things music) but I feel like this video combining a few bars from each of the seventy-seven different closing songs on his last seventy-seven shows has the ability to catch you up to speed real quick. Watch it now, throw it on for your commute, pre-game to it tonight – do whatever with it. It’s pretty dang versatile. Just know that Weird Al is a bad mama jama with the accordion.
