Could The Carolina Hurricanes Be Bringing Back The Hartford Whalers Jersey Next Season?
The Carolina Hurricanes announced last week that they will be holding a party for the release of a new third jersey for the upcoming season, after a season where the NHL allowed no third jerseys, just home and aways to help the transition to the NHL’s new jersey deal with Adidas. Well, now the flood gates are open, and it looks like teams are back on the third jersey train and are releasing them this summer. Can’t really imagine who would go to a third jersey release party, but that’s a story for another day. The real story here is the Hurricanes and the potential for a Hartford Whalers jersey return.
The Whalers jersey/logo is one of my favorite of all time. The green, blue and white color scheme is absolutely fire. The Hurricanes would be so stupid to opt to not use these next season. I mean, why wouldn’t you?
The team stinks. Their head coach basically bailed because they stink so bad. They screwed over Ronnie Franchise, have a new owner that is probably going to move them to Houston, and probably have forced young studs like Jeff Skinner and Noah Hanifin out the door. What the hell do they have to lose if they start wearing these bad boys next season?
Think about it, they come into the season with a nice new #2 overall pick, some new jerseys and maybe, just maybe, the fans start filing in. The team has some young talent, too. I mean the team stinks, but they aren’t that far off. It sounds like Jeff Skinner is all but gone in Carolina, if they could find a way to keep him, add Andrei Svechnikov, then build out from the back end with Hanifin and Slavin, things could turn around in Carolina and it all starts with the Whalers jersey.
And not only are the jerseys A+, but it would open a whole line of merch and jersey sales. Little coin for their pockets. They could use it too. Did you see their attendance this season? Jesus. Let me run the team. I could turn a profit real quick. Because this is an absolute joke.
The Hurricanes need something, anything, at this point to keep fans in the seats and to even keep the team in Raleigh. What do they have to lose? They stink, they are handling their superstars like morons and are forcing them out the door, and can’t get a decent crowd even if they tried. Might as well give the Whalers jerseys a go. It won’t hurt.
