Last Night Wasn't A Dream
What an insane night. I still can’t believe it’s real. It’s been 20 years since a DC team has gone to a Finals. And the way the Caps have done it has been nothing short of remarkable. From going down 2-0 in the Columbus series, to beating the Pens in 6, in OT, in Pittsburgh, to now beating Tampa on the road in game 7, it has been a fucking RIDE.
I mean last night was just crazy. Me and PFT had no idea what to think all day. All I kept saying was “we aren’t losing this game”. I must have said it 50 times at the pregame. “We just aren’t losing this game”. And then a minute into it, Ovi put the Caps onto the board and from there on, it was magic. The Wilson fight, the Bura goals, and being able to see Ovi, Oshie, Backstrom, Holtby, and everyone else celebrate finally making it to the Cup was one of the coolest, if not the coolest, sports moment of my lifetime.
Here we are!
I mean the Caps have been my number 1 sports team since I was like, 4 years old. I grew up going to games at USAir Arena, then MCI Center, then Verizon Center, and now Capital One Arena. I’ve experienced heart break after heart break. Last night was worth it.
The Caps weren’t favored against the Pens. And were not favored against the Lightning. And now, we certainly aren’t favored against Vegas. The Knights are fucking GOOD. But like…why not us? Everyone the Caps couldn’t get out of the 2nd round, that narrative is dead. Everyone said we can’t beat the Lightning, especially without home ice. Proved that wrong. Why not 4 more wins vs Vegas? Can’t do anything else besides believe in this team.
I’ll see you for game 1, Vegas.
